…of sense-making and dissonance. Visualizing a new horizon of time while questioning the interaction of color and negative space through organic forms in rigid structure.

Theme: Sensemaking

Humans have an innate propensity for order that is especially palpable in the chaos and cacophony of daily life. I wanted this piece to speak to the sensemaking we actively engage in every moment of every day — and to celebrate the dichotomy of our desires against the lived experience.

Theme: Dissonance

The contrast between expectation and reality constantly influences our perceived satisfaction. In this piece, the color symbolizes the actualities that flood the void of expectation, and the absence of color indicates the dissonance between the two.

Byproduct Project

After this project, I had a dozen cups of watered-down paint and a pile of paint-soaked paper towels. To avoid discarding these materials, I used them to create a 3D mixed-media piece. The output bore no resemblance to its predecessor, but embraced the same palette, contrast, and texture to tell its own story:
